Apple (AAPL) clearly doesn’t think much of Motorola’s patent portfolio. According to FOSS Patents, Apple’s attorneys have said that they’re willing to pay Motorola money for the rights to use technology covered by its essential wireless patents, but only if the license costs $1 or less per iPhone sold. Apple is slated to appear before a court in Wisconsin next month to hash out FRAND rates for a Motorola patent license and the company will start cutting Motorola checks immediately if the court sets the per-unit FRAND rate at $1 or less. Needless to say, such a development would likely not please Google (GOOG), which bought Motorola to act as garlic and holy water to Apple’s vampiric patent suits.
